Travel Details for Experiencing America: San Francisco

Check-in will be from 1:00 - 1:30 pm on Friday, with the first class beginning promptly at 2:00 pm. The class will end at 4:00 pm on Sunday, so you are free to depart at that time.  

If you are flying, please plan to land on Friday no later than noon, and for your departure flight it is recommended that you arrive to the airport 2 hours before your flight departs.  Please plan accordingly. 

Detailed travel directions for getting to Au Pair Education’s classroom site in San Francisco, located near Fisherman’s Wharf, as well as directions for riding the cable car to get to the school from your accommodations will be provided to all students.

If you are flying to San Francisco
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) provides non-stop service to more than 65 U.S. cities on 22 domestic airlines. A variety of services are offered including a Bay Area Rapid Train (BART) station linking SFO to San Francisco and the East Bay. Information booths for travelers at SFO re located on the arrivals levels at all terminals. Information is available regarding ground transportation such as buses, taxis and shuttles. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) operates rapid rail service directly between SFO and San Francisco. The SFO BART Station is located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal (Boarding Area G side). BART is easily accessed from any terminal by riding SFO's AirTrain to the Garage G/BART Station stop. The airport is located approximately 13 miles south of San Francisco.

If you are taking a bus or train to San Francisco
Nationwide bus companies including Greyhound and Peter Pan will bring you to downtown San Francisco. Amtrak has scheduled train service to San Francisco from several points in California.

If you are taking public transportation to San Francisco
The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) rail system connects the San Francisco Peninsula with Oakland, Berkeley, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Dublin/Pleasanton, and other cities in the East Bay. BART provides fast, reliable public transportation.
The San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) provides transit service within the city and county of San Francisco 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Muni operates 80 routes throughout San Francisco on historic streetcars, modern light rail vehicles, diesel buses, alternative fuel vehicles, electric trolley coaches, and the world famous cable cars.
